The fourth and final ARC Committee meeting regarding the West Ferris family of schools has decided to accept a Near North District School Board amalgamation proposal. This would see grades 7 and 8 students at Silver Birches Public School move to West Ferris Secondary School by September of 2013, and students from Marshall Park and Tweedsmuir Public Schools move to Silver Birches in September of 2014. This would result in the closure of the latter schools. The ARC Committee is made up of parent and student representatives, board members, principals from each school concerned, as well as one independent community member. Sunset Park Public School and Ferris Glen Public School are also affected by this decision, as students leaving there would no longer head to Silver Birches for grades 7 and 8, but directly to West Ferris. The NNDSB must wait 60 business days from the time they receive the ARC proposal before making its final decision on the matter.
